Does this one look familiar, Mom? =)

This is us at Rock Jam.

Vin's high school had an `80's day. I think he pulled it off quite well...

Yes, that is real dye, but it's getting cut out next weekend.

Vinnie and Minnie about to go to homecoming...

Yvonne, Yvette's mom, who is deathly afraid of motorcycles, went for her very first ride... around the block!

Eva, Yvette's Grandmother. Who say's you can't pick up chicks with a Goldwing.... =) She also went around the block...

Labor Day Loop

I'll start this blog out with a food picture, just for Sherm. Corvette's mom made enchilada's, pinto beans, green pork chili and spanish rice for dinner on Saturday Night. Yummm!

Trevor (Goofywizard) and Jamey (JameyT) enjoying a very good meal.

Trevor, Jamey, and Yvette (Corvette) getting ready to ride. I was very disappointed in the weather, it had been beautiful for the previous week. It figures that the weather couldn't hold out for one more day...

The Seca on the end belongs to my son, who joined us for the ride.

Scott and Stu, a couple of local riders whom I invited joined up with us at the Gofer mart. Three more of Stu's friends were to come along, but they declined when they saw the weather. It was overcast and drizzling, but 7 of us motored on.

If you look in the mirror, you can see our group travelling east along I-70 towards Glenwood Springs.

We stopped to look at the scenery, and shed the rain gear. It was still overcast, but it had stopped drizzling and the roads were dry. From right to left were Jamey, Stu, Trevor, Scott, Yvette, and Vinnie.

I snapped this shot of Mt. Sopris as we left Carbondale. Looks like we might have removed the rain gear too soon....

Hays Creek falls just outside of Redstone Colorado. The water flow is fairly low in the fall, this is much more impressive in the spring. Still a beautiful spot.

When we stopped to view the falls, we decided to put our rain gear back on. This is Farmer Jim from South Dakota in his pumpkin colored overalls...

Our view approaching Grand Mesa just outside Cedaredge. The top of the Mesa is totally socked in by clouds. Looks inviting, doesn't it.. I didn't take any pictures going over McClures pass or past Paonia Res. It was raining pretty hard, and I didn't want to soak the camera. The ride was still nice, the res was much fuller than I had expected. By now the irrigation users have pretty much drained it, but not this year. My son left his liner out of his jacket, which meant he was exposed to the rain. His jacket, gloves and shirt were soaked. We stopped at a convenience store outside Paonia to refuel and I gave him my spare hoodie and let him wear my leather jacket and gloves. I slipped on my Gerbing jacket liner, put his soaked jacket on, and wore my Gerbing gloves. I plugged into the Wing and was warm in a few minutes. By the time this pic was taken, the Gerbing had dried out Vin's jacket...

The view of the basin from near the top of the Grand Mesa peering just under the clouds. An impressive sight today, but downright breathtaking when the clouds are higher.

A view from the top. 10,800' and 48ยบ. A wee bit chilly, but still nice enough.

This was our view looking down the other side. Some interesting cloud formations, but I would have liked some openings to take in the view that is normally present.

A picture of the feast we had when we got home. Burgers and sausages, potato salad, bbq-ed beans, Olathe sweet corn and devilled eggs. Stu and Scott went home, retrieved their wives and brought them over for the food. The day was far from perfect, but it was still enjoyable. Even though it rained, the temps were warm. We did outrun a major rainstorm that chased us from outside Grand Junction all the way home, and make grilling a chore, but it never quite caught us while we were on the bikes. All in all I would say the Loop was a success. Last year Eric (ElNomad) was the only person to show. This year Trevor and Jamey made the trip, so we doubled the attendance. Stu and Scott had a good time, and I enjoyed having my son along for the ride. Maybe he learned his lesson and will come more prepared next year, but I doubt it. He is a teenager after all. Corvette was thrilled with the day and is also looking forward to next time.
